Background

Wise Music Group, a renowned name in the music and publishing industry, embarked on a significant enhancement of their London offices, their control centre for all new media and internet activities.

Central to their plans was the installation of a state-of-the-art recording studio. The proposed location for this studio was the building’s primary comms room, which supported the network infrastructure for all five floors. This required not only the decommissioning of the existing comms room but also the careful and seamless relocation of all networking equipment and cabling—activities critical to maintaining uninterrupted operations.

Project Scope

Wise Music Group partnered with ACCL to deliver the following:

  • Decommissioning and relocation of the existing network switches and cabling
  • Cable tracing, labelling, and documenting all structured cabling connections from floor ports to the comms room.
  • As built GA drawings – showing outlet presentation and numbering
  • A full and comprehensive test report, containing an industry standard fluke Test Result breakdown for each network cable across all floors
  • Patching Schedule and Cabinet Elevation
  • Staged floor-by-floor migration of network infrastructure to a new location
  • Recovery of 23 years’ worth of legacy cabling, once the migration was completed.
  • Ensuring zero downtime or service interruption during the process.

Project Execution

  1. Planning and Collaboration
    ACCL worked closely with Wise Music Group’s IT and facilities teams to devise a detailed, phased migration plan. This included a comprehensive mapping of existing cabling infrastructure and identification of optimum pathways to the new comms room.
  2. Floor-by-Floor Migration
  • The project was executed during normal working hours, with one floor tackled at a time.
  • The team first traced every structured cabling connection from individual floor ports back to the main comms room, ensuring every connection was precisely labelled and documented.
  • Following a successful audit, the existing cables were carefully removed from their routes (“pulled back”) to the local riser, then reinstalled along new tray work towards the newly designated comms room.
  • This staged approach minimised risks and allowed for clear communication and sign-off at each stage with the client.
  1. Legacy Cabling Recovery
  • Once all five floors’ active infrastructure had been relocated and tested, ACCL proceeded to recover 23 years’ worth of legacy cabling, decluttering pathways and optimising future maintenance.
  1. Zero Downtime Delivery
    Throughout the project, strict protocols and contingency plans ensured that no network services were lost and there was no interruption to Wise Music Group’s operational teams.

Results

Seamless Transition: All network systems and services were relocated without any disruption to user experience.

Enhanced Usability: Wise Music reclaimed a key space in their building for a new, state-of-the-art recording studio.

Future-Proofed Infrastructure: Legacy cabling was removed, reducing complexity and potential points of failure for future upgrades.

Sustainability: All legacy cabling removed was collected for recycling.
