Zone Cabling was originally used as a solution for Open Plan offices; however, its usage is now becoming wider spread. The use of Zone Cabling means that any future moves, adds or changes can be localised, affecting one small area at a time. The Zone Cabling structure eliminates the need for absolute downtime and disruption to the business is minimised to maintain productivity.
The traditional structured cabling involves running multiple horizontal cables from the Comms room to each work area. This means that if you need to change or even remove the cable to comply with building regulations it becomes a huge job, probably creating major upheaval. The Alternative zone cabling approach means that a strategically placed network connection point in the horizontal cable routes cable from the comms room to zone boxes within specific work areas. Cabling runs then extend from the zone enclosure to each work area in that zone.
