All staff, customers and visitors must be aware that they are being surveilled
All people have the right to view CCTV footage in which they are present, upon request
Police and state authorities can request CCTV images
General Data Protection Act (GDPR) – as the owner of the CCTV images, it is your responsibility to ensure that these are protected from being stolen.
Footage must be securely deleted when it is no longer needed, typically within 30 days.

The four acts governing CCTV in office law are:

The Data Protection Act (DPA) – this regulates how personal data can be processed, moved and how it must be protected.
The Freedom of Information Act (FOI) – this regulates access to information held by public authorities.
The Protection of Freedoms Act (POFA) – this governs how CCTV can be used in public spaces.
The Human Rights Acts (HRA) – this outlines a person’s right to privacy in public spaces, the workplaces and their home. This means that CCTV cannot be used for intrusive purposes in the office.
