How does CCTV work?
A CCTV system is a collection of cameras that stream live video images back to a recording device. There are many types of cameras. These cameras can be fixed to see one area or be able to be moved by the operator. Cameras that are able to moved are called PTZ cameras. This stands are Pan, Tilt and Zoom – which means they can move up and down, left and right and zoom into a scene. A recording device allows the operator to view these live images and play back recorded footage. A modern system uses a PC and dedicated software to view and control the system. The cameras can be connected to the system in a variety of ways and these different methods can be used by a single system with no impact on the users. Wireless can be used if there are issues getting a cable to a camera. While good quality, reliable wireless links are an additional cost they can enable cameras to be positioned in the best place and reduce costs in running cables and installation time.
