Overview

ACCL has worked with Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation at its London Branch for 28 years. We first cabled the five-floor City of London building with a Category 5e structured cabling system, and over the years have kept the infrastructure current, upgrading the copper network to Category 6a and installing OS2 single-mode and OM4 multimode fibre optic services throughout the building.

Our most recent project was the design and installation of a new 62-position trading floor. The floor comprises around 300 data outlets on Leviton Category 6a B2ca copper, every one home run to a new Excel 42U 800 x 1200 data cabinet, served by a 24-core OM4 multimode fibre backbone that was diversely routed for resilience. The project ran from July to August 2026 and was managed by David Little, ACCL’s Operations Director.

The challenge

A City of London trading floor is one of the most demanding environments a structured cabling system can serve. Every position depends on fast, reliable connectivity, and the building is live and occupied as an operating bank branch, so the work had to progress around the client’s operations rather than the other way around.

  • A consistent, tested standard across all 62 positions
  • Distribution of around 300 home-run copper outlets
  • High-density cable routes converging on one new cabinet
  • The fibre backbone route and its diverse secondary path
  • Fire performance for a high-occupancy City building
  • Coordination around a live, occupied banking environment

Project context

24 Lombard Street sits in the heart of the City of London financial district. For a bank, the trading floor is among the most operationally important spaces in the building, which places a premium on reliability and on a clean, well-documented installation.

Planning a trading floor or dealing room fit-out?

ACCL can work with banks, financial institutions, consultants and fit-out teams from design through installation, testing, certification and handover.

A home-run design to a new Excel 42U cabinet

The trading floor was built around a single new Excel 42U 800 x 1200 data cabinet. Every one of the approximately 300 outlets was home run, meaning each outlet has its own dedicated cable running directly back to the cabinet, with no shared or daisy-chained links.

A home-run design makes each connection straightforward to test, patch, trace and change without affecting neighbouring positions, and it keeps the performance of every outlet consistent. The 800 x 1200 cabinet provides generous room for the volume of copper converging on a single point, and for the active equipment the floor requires.

Leviton Category 6a B2ca copper and a diversely routed 24-core OM4 backbone

The trading floor was cabled throughout with Leviton Category 6a B2ca copper. Category 6a supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet across the full 100-metre channel, giving fast and dependable connectivity with headroom for demanding applications. The B2ca element refers to the cable’s reaction to fire under the European Construction Products Regulation, one of the higher fire-performance classes available, suited to a high-occupancy City building.

The floor is served by a 24-core OM4 multimode fibre optic backbone, diversely routed across two separate physical paths through the building. Additional fibre capacity and genuine physical route resilience are not the same thing, and a resilient design considers both.

Tested to a +3 dB parameter, with a 25-year warranty

Every Category 6a copper outlet was tested with a Fluke cable analyser, to a +3 dB parameter requiring each link to deliver at least 3 dB of performance headroom beyond the standard pass threshold. The certified test results were submitted to Leviton, and the installation was registered under a 25-year Leviton system warranty covering the cabling system.

ACCL first cabled 24 Lombard Street in Category 5e. Over time we have upgraded the copper network to Category 6a and layered in OS2 single-mode and OM4 multimode fibre across the five floors, so the infrastructure has kept pace with the client’s needs without wholesale disruption to a live building. The new trading floor is the latest step in that history.

ACCL’s role

ACCL has been the long-term structured cabling and infrastructure partner for the building for 28 years, and delivered the new trading floor as a complete package, project-managed by David Little, ACCL’s Operations Director, between July and August 2026.

  • Structured cabling design and coordination
  • Installed around 300 Leviton Cat6a B2ca outlets
  • Supplied and installed the new Excel 42U cabinet
  • Installed the 24-core OM4 fibre backbone
  • Coordinated the diverse fibre route
  • Fluke testing to a +3 dB parameter
  • Registered the 25-year Leviton system warranty
  • Coordinated works around a live banking environment

Foreword by Wayne

Wayne Connors, Managing Director, ACCL
“Twenty-eight years is a long time to look after one building, and it is something we are proud of at ACCL. We first cabled 24 Lombard Street in Category 5e, and over the years we have upgraded the copper to Category 6a and added OS2 and OM4 fibre across all five floors. The new trading floor was a good example of that: around 300 data outlets, every one home run back to a new Excel 42U cabinet, on Leviton Category 6a B2ca copper, with a 24-core OM4 backbone that we routed diversely for resilience. Every copper outlet was tested with a Fluke tester to a +3 dB parameter, and the certified results were registered with Leviton for a 25-year system warranty. David Little managed the project from July to August 2026. A relationship like this is earned on every project, and we intend to keep earning it.”
Wayne Connors, Managing Director, ACCL
“Thank you very much for your hard work and support throughout this project. I really appreciate your professionalism and commitment, which helped us complete the main phase of this project successfully and on time. It has been a pleasure working with you all.”

What did ACCL install on the new trading floor?

ACCL installed a new 62-position trading floor with around 300 home-run data outlets on Leviton Category 6a B2ca copper, a new Excel 42U 800 x 1200 data cabinet, and a 24-core OM4 multimode fibre backbone diversely routed for resilience.

What does home-run cabling mean?

Home-run cabling means each outlet has its own dedicated cable running directly back to the central cabinet, with no shared or daisy-chained links, keeping every position independent and consistent in performance.

What does the B2ca rating mean?

B2ca is a reaction-to-fire classification under the European Construction Products Regulation, one of the higher fire-performance classes available for data cabling, suited to a high-occupancy building in the City of London.

Why choose Category 6a for a trading floor?

Category 6a supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet across the full 100-metre channel, providing both the speed and the performance headroom a trading floor needs now and in the future.

Why does diverse fibre routing matter?

Diverse routing sends the backbone along two separate physical paths through the building, reducing the risk that damage to a single route removes all connectivity to the floor.

How was the installation tested?

Every Category 6a copper outlet was tested with a Fluke cable analyser to a +3 dB parameter, requiring each link to deliver at least 3 dB of performance headroom beyond the standard pass threshold.

Is the installation covered by a warranty?

Yes. The certified test results were submitted to Leviton, and the installation is registered under a 25-year Leviton system warranty covering the cabling system.

Who managed the project and when was it delivered?

The project was managed by David Little, ACCL’s Operations Director, and delivered between July and August 2026.

How long has ACCL worked at this building?

ACCL has supported the building for 28 years, first installing a Category 5e system and, over time, upgrading the copper to Category 6a and adding OS2 and OM4 fibre services across all five floors.

Does ACCL cover my area?
