Overview
Sumitomo Corporation Europe Limited wanted to transform its London trading floor into a modern, collaborative and sustainable workplace while retaining the performance and resilience expected from a business-critical trading environment.
ACCL was appointed to deliver the structured cabling and fibre optic infrastructure behind that transformation, working alongside fit-out contractor DMG Workplace, technology partner Leviton and distribution partner Edmundson Electrical Datatech. The new infrastructure needed to support 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Power over Ethernet, fibre connectivity and future workplace technologies, while contributing towards the project’s ambitious SKA Gold sustainability objectives.
The challenge
The fundamental challenge was straightforward: the refurbishment could not interrupt the trading operation. More than 60 traders needed continuous access to the network and associated business systems while construction and infrastructure works progressed around them, creating a demanding technical and logistical environment for ACCL.

There was little tolerance for error. Every migration and installation phase had to be planned around the operational requirements of the trading floor.
Leviton 10GPlus® Cat6A infrastructure
ACCL installed a Leviton 10GPlus® Cat6A U/FTP structured cabling system, providing Sumitomo with a high-performance copper infrastructure designed to support current and future network requirements. The shielded Cat6A solution provides the performance required for 10 Gigabit Ethernet while supporting the increasing number of PoE-powered devices found within modern workplaces.
For a high-density trading environment, where network performance and reliability are critical, Cat6A also provides significantly greater long-term capacity than a network designed solely around today’s bandwidth requirements, giving Sumitomo an infrastructure capable of supporting its trading operation today while providing capacity for future technologies.
High-performance fibre optic backbone
Alongside the copper network, ACCL integrated the Leviton OPT-X™ Unity System to provide a structured and scalable fibre optic backbone. The fibre infrastructure was designed to simplify connectivity while providing Sumitomo with the capacity to accommodate future network expansion and technology upgrades.
Together, the Cat6A and fibre systems created a high-performance physical network platform capable of supporting the demanding requirements of the trading floor.

Working around a live trading floor
Perhaps the most important element of the project was not simply what ACCL installed, but how the installation was delivered. With more than 60 traders operating from the London office, a conventional shutdown-and-replace approach was not an option.
ACCL developed a carefully phased installation programme that integrated with DMG Workplace’s wider refurbishment schedule. Network works were sequenced around the operational requirements of the business, allowing areas to be upgraded progressively while maintaining connectivity to the live trading environment. Close coordination between ACCL, DMG Workplace, Sumitomo’s stakeholders, Leviton and Edmundson Electrical Datatech ensured materials, installation activities and network transitions were planned well in advance.
Sustainability built into delivery
Sustainability formed an important part of the overall project strategy and was considered not only in product selection but throughout the installation and logistics process. ACCL worked with the project team to support the requirements associated with SKA Gold Certification, including coordinating deliveries to reduce unnecessary vehicle movements, working with FORS Silver-certified logistics providers, utilising carbon-offset delivery arrangements where applicable, consolidating material deliveries, reusing cable drums and packaging, reducing installation waste, improving material traceability and providing environmental and product documentation.
ACCL also facilitated site visits involving the client and contractor teams, providing greater transparency around product traceability, environmental credentials and the sustainability measures incorporated into the network infrastructure, allowing the physical network installation to contribute to the wider environmental objectives of the refurbishment rather than being treated as an isolated technology package.
Partnership and collaboration
Successful delivery depended upon close collaboration between all parties. DMG Workplace managed the wider design and build programme, with ACCL responsible for translating the network requirements into a practical infrastructure that could be installed around the live business. Leviton’s 10GPlus® Cat6A and OPT-X™ fibre technologies provided the foundation of the new network, while Edmundson Electrical Datatech supported the supply chain and coordinated availability of materials.
This partnership approach helped ensure that specification, logistics, installation and sustainability requirements remained aligned throughout the project.
