City of London Structured Data Cabling

A robust, standards‑compliant structured cabling system is critical for businesses in the City of London, where uptime, compliance, and performance directly affect trading, client service, and regulatory obligations.

Why the City of London is a unique cabling environment

The City of London presents a distinctive mix of historic buildings, modern towers, and high‑rise developments, which makes cabling design and installation more complex than in typical office parks.

It’s only about one square mile, but is an economic giant. The Square Mile is run by the City of London Corporation, which predates the UK Parliament and operates separately from the Greater London Authority.

It also has its own dedicated City of London Police, distinct from the Metropolitan Police that covers the rest of London.

It hosts a dense concentration of global banks, insurers and professional services firms and is recognised as the historic birthplace and core of London.

Regularly working within the Square Mile ACCL have experience of:

Multi‑tenant and listed buildings, where routes must be carefully planned around existing services and building constraints.
High‑rise offices with multiple comms rooms, risers, and critical backbone cabling dependencies.
High‑availability environments that require resilient routes, dual comms rooms, or diverse fibre paths.

This local understanding helps us deliver cabling projects that meet both your technical requirements and the practical realities of working in the Square Mile.

High‑density, mixed‑use commercial buildings

Our engineers work in multi‑tenant offices, high‑rise towers and listed buildings, planning cabling routes carefully to suit the unique fabric of the City. Every installation is fully tested, labelled and documented, giving your IT team clear, audit‑ready records for troubleshooting and future changes. ACCL delivered exactly this kind of installation at Skinners’ Hall, a Grade I listed livery hall on Dowgate Hill, running structured cabling, fibre and CCTV infrastructure around a protected historic building.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We commissioned a Wi-Fi survey and installation of new fibre and Cat6 cabling to support a new Wi-Fi installation from Accl in July and August of 2026. ACCL were superb from start to finish. We cannot fault the quality of the work and we received great advice on our project. Very satisfied customer!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We used ACCL for a full WiFi and network install at our Old Street office and are very pleased with the result. They supplied and installed seven Ubiquiti WiFi access points, a UniFi Dream Machine, a 24 port Layer 3 Ubiquiti switch, and ran new Cat6A Leviton cabling with two ports to every AP. The whole job was neat, well planned and done to a very high standard. The coverage across the office is excellent and it looks pretty cool too! Would happily recommend them to anyone needing cabling or network infrastructure done properly.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We've worked with Wayne, David and the ACCL team for a number of years on projects throughout London. One of very few suppliers that we never have to question their proposal on detail or price, everything is clear, transparent and fair. Projects are always completed on time and there are never any costly surprises which we had previously experienced from other suppliers. They all have a vast knowledge on anything fibre optic cabling, copper cabling or wifi. ACCL is now the only data cabling company in our phone book. Highly recommended.

FAQ – Structured Cabling in the City of London

Q. What is structured cabling?

Structured cabling is a standards-based way of designing and installing network cabling so voice, data and other services all run over a single, organised infrastructure. It replaces ad-hoc cabling with a planned system of outlets, patch panels and backbone links.

Q. Why is structured cabling important for City of London businesses?

City of London firms rely heavily on digital systems and must meet strict compliance and uptime expectations. Structured cabling provides the performance, resilience and documentation they need to support these demands. For example, ACCL recently delivered a new 62-position trading floor for a long-standing banking client at 24 Lombard Street: read the case study.

Q. Which cabling categories do you recommend?

For most modern offices in the City, Cat6 or Cat6a is recommended for new installations, with fibre for backbone connections between floors and to data centres. This combination supports high-speed data, VoIP, Wi-Fi and future technology upgrades.

Q. Can you work out of hours?

Yes, cabling works can be scheduled in evenings, overnight or at weekends to minimise disruption to trading and client-facing operations.

Q. What areas in the City do you cover?

We cover the full Square Mile, including EC1 (Farringdon, Clerkenwell, Old Street, Finsbury), EC2 (Moorgate, Liverpool Street, Finsbury Circus), EC3 (Monument, Tower Hill, Aldgate, Fenchurch Street), EC4 (St Paul’s, Fleet Street, Temple, Blackfriars), and E1/E1A (Bishopsgate, Portsoken, Aldgate).

Financial-services fit-out case study: See how ACCL installed 539 warranted Molex Category 6A links, plus wireless and CCTV cabling, for a City of London financial-services workplace, phased alongside live construction in this City of London Cat 6A fit-out.

They were professional, efficient, and paid great attention to detail, ensuring everything was neat, clearly labelled, well organised, and completed to a very high standard. The end result was clean, structured, and exactly what we needed.

Wayne and his team were reliable, courteous, and clearly committed to doing the job properly rather than simply getting it done. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for professional cabling work and a team that genuinely takes pride in the quality of their finish.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Wayne and team did an excellent job tidying our office data cabinet over the weekend. Professional, clean work—they went above and beyond with cable management and even relocated the router. Communication was impeccable throughout. Highly recommend.
