How this Wi-Fi cost calculator works
Use ACCL’s Wi-Fi cost calculator to build an early estimate for a commercial wireless installation, including access points, cabling, PoE switching, controllers and configuration.
The calculator uses floor count, floor area, environment type, selected Wi-Fi generation, controller model, switching requirements and design contingency to produce an indicative planning allowance. Ceiling height is shown as a design warning rather than being used to claim additional coverage.
It is designed for initial budgeting, office moves, wireless upgrades, new fit-outs, warehouse coverage, education projects and multi-floor commercial sites. The result can support an early business case, but it is not a fixed quotation or a substitute for a professional wireless survey.

What affects commercial Wi-Fi installation costs?
Floor area is only one part of wireless design. Building materials, room layout, ceiling construction, user density, device types, interference, roaming requirements and the applications being used can all change the number and placement of access points.
The supporting network infrastructure also affects the final scope. The calculator includes a two-link Cat6A design allowance per access point for resilience, future capacity and compatible multi-port equipment. Final link quantities, PoE switching, cabinet capacity, controller hardware or cloud licences, secure SSID and VLAN configuration are confirmed during design.

Access point cabling should be planned and installed with reference to recognised installation and quality-assurance requirements, including BS EN 50174-1.
Outdoor areas, high ceilings, restricted access, occupied workplaces and out-of-hours installation can add further requirements. ACCL’s free initial site survey confirms access, existing infrastructure and practical project constraints. Not automatically included: fibre or copper uplink upgrades, new cabinets, UPS capacity, core switching changes, specialist access equipment, out-of-hours working, unusual containment, fire stopping and remediation of existing network faults. These are added only where the surveyed scope requires them.
Choosing Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7
The newest Wi-Fi generation is not automatically the right choice for every site. Wi-Fi 6 remains suitable for many business environments, while Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 can provide additional capacity and spectrum options where compatible client devices and high-density applications justify the investment.
The correct choice depends on user density, device capability, application performance, expected network lifecycle, channel availability and the wired backhaul supporting each access point.
ACCL can review the existing estate and recommend whether to optimise, expand or replace the wireless network. The design can also account for phased upgrades where a complete replacement is not commercially necessary.

No. The calculator provides an indicative project range for early-stage budgeting. ACCL confirms final pricing after a Wi-Fi survey, network review and assessment of access point positions, cable routes, switching, licences and installation requirements.

The calculator can include indicative allowances for access point cabling, PoE switching, controller hardware or cloud licensing, installation and configuration. The exact requirements are confirmed after the existing network and cabinet infrastructure have been reviewed.
Q. How accurate is the estimated number of access points?
It is a planning estimate based on floor area and the selected environment. Final access point quantities and positions depend on building materials, interference, user density, device behaviour, roaming requirements and the results of a predictive or on-site Wi-Fi survey.
Q. Should I choose Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7?
The right generation depends on your client devices, applications, capacity requirements, available spectrum and expected upgrade cycle. ACCL can recommend the most appropriate option rather than specifying newer hardware where it offers little practical benefit.
Q. Can ACCL improve an existing Wi-Fi network?
Yes. Poor performance can result from access point placement, interference, channel planning, power settings, insufficient wired backhaul or limited PoE capacity. A survey can identify whether optimisation, additional access points or a phased replacement is the best approach.
