Why warehouse Wi‑Fi fails (and how we prevent it)
Get warehouse Wi-Fi installation wrong in a live operation, and these are usually the first five things to go wrong:
- Steel racking and conveyor-motor interference: dense racking and 415V motors distort and absorb RF signal differently aisle to aisle. We survey real conditions and design coverage cells around your actual layout, not a generic floor plan.
- Roaming drop-outs for moving devices: handheld scanners, AMRs and forklift-mounted tablets need to move between access points without dropping the connection. We tune roaming thresholds and AP placement specifically for continuously moving devices, not static desks.
- Insufficient PoE budget: PTZ cameras, RFID portals and pick-by-voice headsets are often added long after the original network was designed. We plan switch and access point power budgets with headroom for what gets added next.
- Temperature extremes: unheated bulk storage and chilled areas sit alongside hot mezzanine offices. We specify hardware rated for the environment it’s actually installed in.
- Flat networks with no segmentation: WMS, guest, security and operational IoT sharing one SSID creates congestion and risk. We implement SSID/VLAN segmentation with appropriate access controls.
