Why warehouse Wi‑Fi fails (and how we prevent it)

Get warehouse Wi-Fi installation wrong in a live operation, and these are usually the first five things to go wrong:

Steel racking and conveyor-motor interference: dense racking and 415V motors distort and absorb RF signal differently aisle to aisle. We survey real conditions and design coverage cells around your actual layout, not a generic floor plan.
Roaming drop-outs for moving devices: handheld scanners, AMRs and forklift-mounted tablets need to move between access points without dropping the connection. We tune roaming thresholds and AP placement specifically for continuously moving devices, not static desks.
Insufficient PoE budget: PTZ cameras, RFID portals and pick-by-voice headsets are often added long after the original network was designed. We plan switch and access point power budgets with headroom for what gets added next.
Temperature extremes: unheated bulk storage and chilled areas sit alongside hot mezzanine offices. We specify hardware rated for the environment it’s actually installed in.
Flat networks with no segmentation: WMS, guest, security and operational IoT sharing one SSID creates congestion and risk. We implement SSID/VLAN segmentation with appropriate access controls.

Q. How soon can new automation lanes (AMRs, sorters) be added to the network?

Designs include spare capacity and documented pathways, so extending coverage to new automation lanes is usually a case of adding to the existing design rather than starting again.

Q. Do we need a site survey before you quote?

A site survey gives the most accurate design and quote for warehouse Wi-Fi installation, particularly given how much racking layout and building fabric affect performance. Where a full survey isn’t possible immediately, we can start from a practical baseline and refine it.

Q. Will the network need re-cabling if racking layouts change?

Not usually. We plan spare capacity and documented pathways so access points can be re-sited with minimal rework as your layout evolves.

Q. Do warranties transfer if we sell or lease the facility?
